About

Methodology

How we choose material, check facts and handle photographs and family documents.

What reaches the site

We publish public places, organizations, published material and recordings given to us with permission. Private addresses, non-public meeting points and material without consent are not published.

How facts are checked

Every statement rests on the source shown beside it. Coordinates come from OpenStreetMap and are cross-checked with official pages; holiday dates are calculated with Hebcal for Baku and verified by an independent calculation.

How to correct an error

The suggestion form takes a correction with a link to a source. We reply, amend the text and record the date of the check.

Photographs

We use only freely licensed material or material used with the author's permission, always with the author and the licence shown. Images generated by neural networks are never presented as documentary.

Family material

Family photographs, documents and interviews are published only with written consent and only to the extent the owner stated. Consent can be withdrawn: the material is then unpublished.

Reconstructions

Every reconstruction carries a fidelity level: confirmed, probable, interpretation. A modern map or photograph is never presented as a historical one.

Record statuses

Verified
Checked against an archive, a museum, an official institution or a scholarly publication.
Community contributed
Contributed by a community member. We publish it with its source but have not checked it independently.
Needs review
Published with an open question about a fact or about rights. We are looking for confirmation.
Interpretation
A reconstruction or a scholarly reading, not a primary record.
Demo
A sample of the format. It is not historical material and makes no claim about the past.
