Why I created this project

I created JewishHub Azerbaijan because accessible, reliable information about Jewish heritage in Azerbaijan is still hard to find. Details about synagogues, museums, holidays and the history of the communities are scattered across many sources and are often available in only one language.

Mountain Jews, Ashkenazi Jews and Georgian Jews are part of Azerbaijan’s history, and Mountain Jews have lived here for many centuries. I want anyone to be able to open this site and learn where the synagogues and places of memory are, when the holidays fall, and how these communities lived in the past and live today.

My aim is to make this heritage accessible and better known around the world: in four languages, with a source for every fact and nothing made up. For me, this is a way to preserve the Jewish culture of Azerbaijan — not only in archives and museums, but also where people look for it today: online.

The project’s mission

  • Bring verified information about Jewish heritage in Azerbaijan together in one place.
  • Help people discover the history and present-day life of the Jewish communities.
  • Make this heritage better known worldwide — in Russian, Azerbaijani, English and Hebrew.
  • Preserve the memory of the culture, traditions and places for future generations.
